The Pigeon Tunnel (2023) - Movie Review

Spans six decades as le Carré gives his final and most personal interview, interrupted with rare archival footage and dramatic anecdotes. It is set against the stormy Cold War backdrop that extends into the present day.

John le Carré is one of Britain’s best-regarded novelists and perhaps the premier spy novelist of the 20th Century with well-loved works including The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Constant Gardner, many of his best-known novels turning into su

2023 BFI London Film Festival Review - The Zone of Interest

The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.

Jonathan Glazer has carved out a reputation as one of the most singular directors working today with his films Sexy Beast, Birth and Under The Skin. His first film in a decade is The Zone of Interest, adapting the Martin Amis novel of the same name. It is focused on the commandant of Auschwitz and his family, with more cursory glances at the horror

London Film Festival 2023: The Holdovers | Review

Alexander Payne has had an acclaimed career with highlights including Election, Nebraska and About Schmidt, and adapted screenplay Oscar wins for Sideways and The Descendants. His latest film The Holdovers has earned a rave reception on the festival circuit and reunites him with Sideways’ lead Paul Giamatti. The question many might have is: can lightning strike twice for this collaboration? The answer is an emphatic yes.

We follow Giamatti’s Paul Hunham, a disgruntled and unpopular teacher at t

Killers of the Flower Moon - 2023 BFI London Film Festival Review

Members of the Osage tribe in the United States are murdered under mysterious circumstances in the 1920s, sparking a major F.B.I. investigation involving J. Edgar Hoover.

Martin Scorsese is, without doubt, one of the most important figures in the development of modern cinema, from his early works like Mean Streets or Taxi Driver through Goodfellas, The Departed and more underrated gems like After Hours, The King of Comedy or Age of Innocence. Far from the impression given that he exclusively ma

10 Years On: HAIM - 'Days Are Gone' | Features

When HAIM released ‘Days Are Gone’ in September 2013, they couldn’t have imagined the kaleidoscopic impact it would have on them. The collection of eleven tracks earned instant rave reviews and numerous comparisons – sometimes unfairly – to 70s Californian rock, especially the ‘Rumours’ era sound of Fleetwood Mac (no pressure!!). In the years that have followed the trio has gone onto sellout stadia and festivals across the globe, with a recent headline stint at All Points East and several high-p

Live Report: Victorious Festival 2023 | Live

The festival season as always came to a close on the August bank holiday weekend with All Points East, Reading & Leeds Festival and Victorious Festival down on Southsea Common, overlooking the sea and Isle of Wight. After a hugely successful 2022 – which culminated with a set from Sam Fender – anticipation was high for the 2023 edition with Friday sets from Jamiroquai and Pete Tong, Saturday sets from Kasabian and alt-J, and a UK exclusive set from Mumford & Sons on Sunday.

Friday was an expans

Asteroid City (2023) - Movie Review

Following a writer on his world famous fictional play about a grieving father, who travels with his tech-obsessed family to small rural Asteroid City, to compete in a stargazing event. Only to have his world view disrupted forever.

Wes Anderson has been delighting audiences with his colourful escapades since 1996’s Bottle Rocket. His films at this stage are among the most recognisable in modern cinema full of whip pans, exquisite production design, large ensembles and a broad colour palette. An

Blur – The Ballad of Darren | Album review

It came as a surprise when Blur announced their ninth album The Ballad of Darren. This is only their second since 2003 after The Magic Whip, released in 2015. 2023, meanwhile, has already been a stellar year for Blur members, with Damon Albarn securing a number-one with Gorillaz’s Cracker Island and guitarist Graham Coxon releasing a debut album as The Waeve, both released in February.

Anticipation is naturally high for the record, coming off the back of a pair of sold-out and highly acclaimed

Angels & Queens review | Gabriels release a neo-soul record for the ages

Gabriels deliver the full gospel, soul, RnB package by adding the second half to their sumptuous debut, Angels & Queens.

Neo-soul group Gabriels’ stock has been on the rise for the past 18 months following two rapturously received Glastonbury sets, emerging as one of the must-see live acts and releasing an acclaimed first part to their debut album Angels & Queens in September last year.

Part 1 was regarded as one of the finest albums of 2022 and so naturally anticipation is high for the second
